Hollywood star Ray Winstone had better watch out because he has competition.

It’s from up-and-coming 24-year-old Jason Maza from Romford, who stars alongside new X Factor judge Tulisa Contostavlos in Demons Never Die which is due to be released in cinemas on October 28.

Jason said: “Ray Winstone has done some amazing films and he is someone who I really admire because he started off at the ground and has worked his way up and is now doing Hollywood films.”

Demons Never Die, which is out just in time for Halloween, follows seven depressed London teenagers who agree a suicide pact after the death of one of their friends.

Jason plays Kenny. He said: “On the surface it’s a light-hearted teen film but when you get into it, it’s about suicide and the kids are all doing it for some reason.”

‘Amazing reviews’

After five years in the industry, Jason – who started at Colin’s Performing Arts School, North Street, Romford, when he was just seven – has credits on TV including Casualty and Holby City and on Bafta award-winning film Fish Tank.

But his biggest role so far was at the Royal Court Theatre in Sucker Punch.

Jason said: “Doing Sucker Punch was amazing because everyone saw it and it got some amazing reviews. To be involved in that felt so special.

“That was a pivotal moment because you are in front of a lot of industry people and off the back of that I ended up doing a lot of films.”

But Jason is showing no signs of slowing down over the next year.

He said: “It is still early days but I think a lot of change is going to happen within the next six months and I have films that everyone is talking about.

“You can only hope that they are going to be big but you can never prepare yourself for it.

“I have done some really good work that I am really proud of and people are really pushing to make it a big success.”
