It has been a busy month for Havering choir Funky Voices.
The choir, which is hailed as Essex’s largest multi award winning modern community choir, were invited to perform as part of Summer Live: West End Anthems on Sunday August 4 at Bluewater Shopping Centre alongside musical theatre stars Kerry Ellis and Helen Hobson.
Sammy Hollister, one of the members of the group, said: “We performed alongside Kerry Ellis, who is famous for her outstanding lead performances in Wicked, Oliver, Les Miserables and Miss Saigon.
“The event was a huge step into stardom for Funky Voices who look forward to performing with the stars again isn the future.”
On Thursday August 8, the choir performed for the fifth time with Brit award winners, Blake, as part of the Glow Festival in Bluewater.
The summer is not expected to slow down for the group.
The group will be performing on Monday August 26 at the Havering Show.
The award winning Funky Voices was founded and launched in 2007 by musical direcotr Sandra Colston to meet a need in the community for something fresh and new.
A choir that sing modern music that can be enjoyed by everyone, no audition or experience needed. Rehearsals take place weekly at North Romford Community Association every Monday from 8pm to 10pm. Each Funky Voices rehearsal is taught by highly qualified and experienced music tutors.
The choir has clocked up a number of performances at a range of venues including the London Palladium, Her Majesty’s Theatre.
London Southbank, Berlin Pop Festival and Disneyland Paris.
