Romford boss Kris Newby suggested ruthlessness in front of goal was the difference in their impressive 4-2 win at Frenford on Saturday.
Brendan Ocran and Kennedy Feyi twice put Boro ahead, with Blaise Uwandji coming off the bench to net a crucial third goal on his debut after the hosts had twice pegged Newby’s side back.
“We were much more ruthless and much more clinical. We took our chances in this game,” Newby told the Recorder.
“The other games (previously) we rode our luck in. When we played White Ensign, we had the situation with the goalkeeper getting sent off, and with Ilford we lost control at times and allowed it to become a basketball match.
“In that game, we just didn’t take our chances, but on Saturday, we really did.”
Newby felt the win should have been more convincing, however, and cited his side’s defensive flaws as a cause of concern heading into the remainder of the season.
“Ultimately, I’m still disappointed with the two goals we conceded, because it should've been a comfortable afternoon, but we seem to like making things difficult for ourselves,” he added.
“I spoke to Steve (Gardener) - our chairman - and he just said that’s been Romford for the last 15 or 20 years, so don’t expect to change it! We don’t do things the easy way.”
Summer addition Feyi added the second goal to put the Boro back in front just four minutes after half-time, but Newby’s men were pegged back once again shortly after.
Newby has been impressed with Feyi’s ability to slot seamlessly into his team, adding: “He’s an experienced forward and has played at a high level. I don’t think we’ve actually gotten the best out of him so far, because we don’t play to his strengths.
"On Saturday, we got two balls into the box from wide areas, and he hit the post and scored the other one.
“We just don’t play through him enough. We need to utilise him better, and I think if we did, then he’d have a lot more goals than he already does.
"He’s a great lad, and he’s only going to get better if we play to his strengths.”
Amaree Robinson-Jones netted the fourth goal for Boro, who now enjoy a two-week break from action with West Essex up next on December 14.
And the Boro boss shed some light on what his squad might get up to during the break.
“We’re training on Thursday, and then I’ll be going to watch a few games this week as there are a couple of boys I want to see," he said.
"Later on this week, I want everyone to go out for a team dinner as we’re still a relatively new group, and I want to build some more togetherness.
“After that, we train for the next few days ahead of the game against West Essex.”
