Hornchurch boss Daryl McMahon hailed his side following their 2-1 win over Torquay United at the weekend.
Goals from Liam Nash and George Saunders secured the National League South points for Urchins in front of a crowd of 988, following a midweek draw at Boreham Wood.
And McMahon, having called the two fixtures 'benchmark' tests, was pleased to see them claim four points from a possible six.
"We know they're a very good side but I thought we dealt with everything they put into the box really well, particularly in that last bit," he said.
"Scotty and Gibbo, Will Greenidge and Giles defended really well.
"All the subs did well, they come on and helped the team get over the line, that's really important.
"Our biggest strength is our togetherness as a team and a club as well, you can see that.
"We have to keep leaning on that in moments like this.
"The crowd in the last five minutes was massive to get us over the line. Everyone has done great."
Nash fired a left-footed shot inside the post on seven minutes to give Urchins a flying start, but had to go off on the half-hour mark.
"He rolled his ankle so he's got a bit of swelling, we'll have to test it," added McMahon.
"Pity, losing Nashy, he's massive for us, a top goalscorer. It was a great finish.
"As soon as it fell to him, he's the one player you want it to fall to at the moment because you know he's got the quality."
Saunders replaced Scott Kashket early in the second half and doubled the advantage when firing into the roof of the net just past the hour.
"George has been excellent the last month, his performances have been terrific," said McMahon.
"He was unlucky not to play on Wednesday, we left him out because we knew Boreham Wood would play a 3-5-2 and wanted a defensive player on the right hand side in Will.
"We know we've got a top player in George and he's bang on it at the moment."
After a midweek trip to Maldon & Tiptree in the BBC Essex Senior Cup, Urchins return to league action at home against Hemel Hempstead on Tuesday.
They have also been handed a trip to league rivals Enfield Town in the FA Trophy second round on November 16.
