Raiders forward Jake Sylvester says they need to maintain their high standards as they bid for more National League success this weekend.

The Romford outfit face a long trip to Sheffield Steeldogs on Saturday (7pm), before returning to host Berkshire Bees at the Sapphire Ice & Leisure Centre on Sunday (5.15pm).

And they go into the latest double-header on the back of experiencing mixed fortunes last weekend.

"Sheffield have a good team and have shown that in their last results," said Sylvester. referring to their three-game winning streak.

"We need to make sure we hit the ice in high gear, ready for a fast game.

"Bees are a team improving every weekend and we know it’s always a tough game.

"We need to keep our home record going and now that we’ve set the standards as high as we have we need to keep to them."

Bees had won in Telford and beaten Leeds, before losing in Sheffield last Sunday.

And Raiders experienced similar last time out as they trailed Telford 3-2 at the midway point of Saturday's home game, before rallying to skate off 7-4 winners.

September's player of the month Shaun Miller put Raiders in front with barely three minutes played, but Tigers roared back through Harry Ferguson and former Raider Scott McKenzie to lead at the first break.

Aiden Wilson answered with a powerplay goal early in the middle session, only for Adam Harding to put the visitors back in front.

But Sylvester squared matters on another man advantage, then set up player-coach Adam Laishram with Telford shorthanded again.

Tjay Anderson and Zachary Yokoyama then traded goals, before Sylvester's second powerplay goal of the night put Raiders 6-4 up and Seb Mohr struck 34 seconds later to seal the points.

"We had a slow start to the weekend and really let Telford into to game in the first two periods," said Sylvester.

"Luckily we played a better third and put the game out of reach."

Sylvester set up Miller for a powerplay goal to cancel out Hull's early opener the next night.

But Raiders goalie Ethan James then suffered a broken skate and back-up Thomas Brown was beaten during his brief spell between the pipes.

James was beaten 43 seconds before the end of the period and again just 38 seconds into the middle session as Seahawks went 4-1 up.

Hull added a fifth while shorthanded, with tempers boiling over at the buzzer as Joe Tomalin fought Kohen Taylor.

And although Andrew Shewfelt hit back while Raiders enjoyed a subsequent powerplay at the start of the final period, they returned empty-handed - with Laishram suffering a suspected concussion after a hit from David Phillips - as Hull avenged their recent overtime loss in Romford.

"Sunday was a tough game I feel we had the chances to win but ultimately we showed them a little too much respect," said Sylvester.

"I think we’ve had a good start but have plenty to work on for the coming weekend."

Sylvester took his career tally in a gold and blue jersey to 355 points (193 goals, 162 assists) at the weekend and is expected to move above Rich Tomalin (372) into sixth in the club's all-time scoring list at some point this season.

But, with his 27th birthday coming up later this month, he says he is more interested in team success at this point.

"It's nice to contribute as always but the records will come and go, I’m sure if you ask Rich he’ll say the same," added Sylvester.

"Hopefully we can show as a team what we can do and challenge for some silverware."
