Hornchurch boss Daryl McMahon was delighted to see his side bank another National League South win over Farnborough in midweek.

Urchins had fallen to a 3-2 defeat at Weston-super-Mare on Saturday, after conceding twice in the opening 14 minutes.

But they bounced back at Bridge Avenue to pick up three more points thanks to a fine Liam Nash finish.

And McMahon felt it was no more than they deserved on the night.

“Delighted – my possible criticism of us again would be that we should've scored more goals," he told the club's YouTube channel.

“We’ve spoken a few times about creating numerous chances in games and haven’t actually taken them whether we’ve won, drawn or lost. But I felt we probably created the most clearcut chances we’ve created in any game this season.

“Credit to the players, defended really well, great save at the end from Mason [Terry] as well, because when you’re 1-0 up, the other team has always got a puncher’s chance.

“Farnborough are a good side and prior to the game, they’d won five out of six.

“Delighted with the clean sheet, got the three points and looking forward to the weekend now."

McMahon's men head south to Worthing this weekend and the boss had praise for certain individuals.

“Manny [Harvest] was the first one I spoke to in the changing room in front of all of the boys because I thought he was superb," he added.

“To play wing-back Saturday in the second half, he was excellent, then to play right wing-back to start with and then right-back and then left-back – when you talk about football intelligence, it’s about being able to play in different positions and just adapt straight away.

“Excellent. One v one he’s so good and really good on the ball and moving the ball.

“It’s a performance from him he’s now got to go and build on, which I’ve no doubt he will, because he’s hungry to improve.

“I also thought George Saunders who came on at the end for 12 to 15 minutes had a massive impact and we saw George back to his best in that little spell, where he’s taking people on, he’s showing his pace and agility and getting crosses and shots in as well."

Nash volleyed home the only goal of the game, seven minutes before half-time, having also found the net alongside Sean Scannell at Weston.

And McMahon wasn't surprised to see the striker take his club tally to 86 in 147 appearances.

“It’s just Nashy – that’s what he does," he said.

“Many years ago, I had him on trial at Ebbsfleet when he was at Maldon & Tiptree, I think it was.

“He’s very talented and we know he’s capable of doing the unpredictable and when he has shots like that or scores goals like that, it doesn’t surprise me at all.

“He believes in himself and we know he can score goals like that. Delighted with the goal and he’s had a great start to the season.

“That’s four in seven for him now, so I think he’s showing everyone he can play at this level.”

Hornchurch were handed a home tie against Hashtag United when the draw for the second qualifying round of the FA Cup was made this week. Ties take place on September 14.
