Romford Raiders have announced the signing of a third Canadian import in Andrew Shewfelt.

The 28-year-old from Dartmouth, Nova Scotia joins player-coach Adam Laishram and Shaun Miller on the roster for the 2024-25 National League season.

And he admits he cannot wait to meet up with his new teammates and club supporters at the Sapphire Ice & Leisure Centre.

"I am incredibly thankful for the opportunity to join the Raiders this season and am very excited to get things started at the Sapphire in September," said Shewfelt.

"I have heard a lot of great things about the team, the fans, and the city, so it was an easy decision to sign with the club.

"I’m looking forward to meeting everyone and working together towards a successful season."

Shewfelt's early junior career was spent in the Nova Scotia bantam and midget leagues with Cole Harbour and Dartmouth.

He then went on to play three seasons with Halifax Mooseheads in the Quebec Maritime Junior League and split the 2016-17 season between the QMJHL's Drummondville Voltigeurs and Amherts Ramblers, of the Maritime Junior League.

He scored 77 points (38 goals, 39 assists) in 240 league and play-off games in the QMJHL, before spending three seasons playing USports for Dalhousie University - where new Raiders teammate Miller also subsequently studied and played.

Shewfelt went on to play two seasons in the East Coast Hockey League, having spells at Wichita Thunder, Tulsa Oilers, Pensacola Ice Flyers and Evansville Thunderbolts, and scored 36 points (19 goals, 17 assists) in 121 league and play-off games.

Last season saw him playing for Meudon in France, where he tallied 24 points (13 goals, 11 assists) in 25 appearances.

The arrival of Shewfelt sees the Raiders roster grow to 11.

Raiders start their 2024-25 season with a home challenge match against Peterborough on August 31 and play host to Invicta on September 8.

Both matches will start at 5.15pm and include a kids for a quid offer. Dates for National League regular season fixtures should be available soon.
