Upminster Golf Club hosts Sports Council awards night

Havering Sports Council will honour its heroes of 2013 during their annual awards night at Upminster Golf Club on Monday.

The presentation evening is regarded as one of the highlights of the sporting calendar as it acknowledges the achievements of local men, women, boys and girls and this year’s event promises to be no exception.

Havering Mayesbrook Athletics Club has finalists in six of the eight categories, while Hornchurch & Elm Park boxing club has nominations in four.

Finalists – Junior Male Competitor of the Year: Sonny Ali (boxing), Joshua Arnone (swimming), Max Law (athletics).

Junior Female Competitor of the Year: Rihannon Easton (archery), Freya Gutteridge (athletics), Michelle Hughes (athletics).

Sports Competitor of the Year: Lauren Deadman (athletics), Lydia Hallam (athletics), Sam Hulbert (karate).

Sports Volunteer of the Year: George Marsh (football referee), Jordan Sargeant (tennis), Dean Smith (boxing).

Sports Club of the Year: Elm Park Boxing Club, Havering Mayesbrook AC, Havering Sports Acrobatic Gymnastic Club.

Senior School Team of the Year: Coopers Coborn Tennis Team, Frances Bardsley Football Team, Marshalls Park Netball Team.

Primary School Team of the Year: Ardleigh Green Athletics Team, Newtons Multi-sports Team, St. Joseph’s Hockey Team.

Doug Riden Lifetime Achievement Award: Georgio Bugnatelli (tennis), Patrick Gahagan (athletics), Tony Martin (boxing).
