Boxing hopefuls record wins

Romford Boxing Club had double reason to celebrate on the Gator show at Chigwell’s Prince Regent Hotel last Friday.

Lewis Everett, 12, claimed a split decision against Dale Youth’s M. Ward in their 35kg contest, before clubmate Sam Strange defeated Finchley rival M O’Reilly at 59kg.

Strange, 14, made an excellent start to the bout and had his opponent in trouble throughout the first round.

And the Romford youngster was awarded victory by way of a technical knockout after the contest was stopped before the end of the round.

The Romford club stage their second open show of the new season at the RUSS Club in Mawney Road tonight (Friday), where their youngsters will be joined in the ring by rivals from the Alma club and West Ham ABC.

Admission on the door is £15 adults and £5 concessions, with a bar and refreshments available. No under-18s unless accompanied by an adult.

n A funeral service will be held at Brentwood Cathedral, Ingrave Road, Brentwood today (Friday, 11am) for former Five Star boxer Joe Browne, who died recently at the age of 73.
