A Dagenham school where "pupils flourish" has been praised by Ofsted after a visit.

Goresbrook School in Cook Road, was inspected in October, with the findings being published on November 27.

The school, which teaches children from nursery to sixth form, was rated 'outstanding' in all six inspection categories.

Ofsted no longer publishes overall ratings for schools.

Inspectors found that "pupils flourish at this school", academically, socially and emotionally.

"They are safe and appreciate the level of care that teachers show. They can speak to any member of staff if they are worried about anything. Pupils learn how to stay safe."

"The school sets ambitious standards" with a "culture of high expectations" which help "pupils achieve exceptionally well".

There are also plenty of "opportunities for pupils to grow as leaders", Ofsted found.

"Pupils show high levels of commitment to their studies.

"Their behaviour in class and around the school is impressive. Pupils value the excellent education they are receiving, and attendance rates are high.

"The school’s work to prepare pupils for life after school is exceptional."

Inspectors also noted that "pupils enjoy being part of this diverse school community" and "have a strong understanding of difference".

"Pupils display high levels of respect for staff and for each other. They are courteous in their interactions."

Goresbrook's last Ofsted report rated it as 'good' in 2019.

Principal Megan Harris was delighted with the findings of the new report.

She said: "It is hugely gratifying that the inspectors were so impressed by our students’ exceptional attitudes towards learning as well as by the mature and respectful way in which they interact with each other and staff.

“Seeing our young people enjoying and engaging in their learning brings me great pride and I am thrilled that Ofsted has recognised this.

"Of course, none of this would be possible without our wonderful staff and I would like to thank them for their extraordinary hard work, dedication and care.”
