A "disgusting" dead bug was found in a bag of salad bought from a Barking supermarket.
Shamim Khan visited Asda in Barking on November 11 and amongst her purchases was a bag of Asda beetroot, baby spinach and baby kale salad.
But to Shamim's shock, "a big dead moth, over an inch long" fell out amongst the salad leaves.
Shamim claimed that this was the first time she had experienced anything like this but it was "simply so disgusting".
Shamim phoned the Barking Asda store to complain.
She said: "They said to me, 'We can give you a refund and then you can throw the original bag away'.
"I thought that was silly, you could at least explain how this could happen – it was such a big bug – at least over an inch long."
Shamim said she has since been struggling to buy salad from supermarkets.
“Bagged salad is really out of the question now for me," she told this paper.
“They say it is all washed and ready to consume. But what I found was really disgusting."
An Asda spokesperson said: "We make every effort we can to ensure our fresh produce is washed and any tag-along is removed before it is packed.
"We would like to apologise to Ms Khan that one has seemingly made it through on this occasion.
"Each raw material is closely inspected on arrival and is washed before it is packed and sealed.
"Because it is so fresh, whilst it is extremely rare, there is always the very small chance there will be a tag along."
