A social worker said she feared for her life when she was attacked by a dog during a home visit.

A large Belgian breed dog named Luna attacked the social worker at the home of Salina Robinson in Tollgate Road, Beckton, on May 25.

The victim said: “I was afraid for my life. I thought I was trapped and the dog was going to injure me. I could see the sharp teeth and the saliva in the dog's mouth.

“It was completely out of control.”

The woman suffered a bite to her hand during the attack, though it only caused a superficial injury.

On Thursday (November 21), Robinson -  the dog’s owner - pleaded guilty to being the owner of a dog which caused injury whilst it was dangerously out of control.

Robinson, 44, who has three dogs, claimed she had asked the care worker not to enter her house as Luna was quite territorial and was in heat.

But prosecutor Emily Timcke said: “The dogs had been discussed with Ms Robinson prior to the visit and it was agreed that they would be outside.”

District Judge Holland, sitting at Willesden Magistrates’ Court, gave Robinson a one-year conditional discharge – meaning she faces no punishment unless she offends again in the year.

He made a contingent destruction order, meaning Luna will be put down if Robinson fails to comply with certain conditions.

The conditions include making sure Luna is secure when any visitor enters the property.
