A murder investigation has launched after a woman’s body was found inside the boot of a car in Ilford.

Northamptonshire Police were contacted on Wednesday (November 13) by a member of the public regarding the concern for the welfare of a woman in Corby, Northampton.

As officers investigated the concern, it led to a woman’s body being found inside the boot of a car in Brisbane Road, Ilford.

The Metropolitan Police said the car was parked on the road and the body was identified as a 24-year-old woman.

Superintendent Steve Freeman from Northamptonshire Police said: “We are treating the death as suspicious and a murder investigation has been launched.

“Detectives from the East Midlands Special Operations Unit Major Crime Team and the Metropolitan Police have been working at pace to establish the circumstances that led to the woman’s death.”

As the investigation continues, there will be increased police activity in Corby and Ilford.

Police have said there should be no wider risk to the public.

Supt Freeman said: “Although we believe that this was a targeted incident and there is no wider risk to members of the public, extra patrols will be taking place in Corby in the coming days for reassurance purposes.
