Transport for London (TfL) has been called on to address issues with a bus route described as "completely unreliable" and subject to "major delays".

Dagenham and Rainham MP Margaret Mullane has written to TfL asking it to review the 103 bus service as a "matter of urgency", which runs between Chase Cross, Collier Row and Rainham Interchange.

On its route, it passes through Romford and Dagenham.

In her letter, Ms Mullane describes issues with the "service, punctuality and reliability" of the route, which have been brought up with her by her constituents.

She said: "For many in Dagenham and Rainham, the route is the only measure in place to ensure that around half of my constituents are able to get to where they need to be.

"However, I have been contacted by many residents in both Rainham and Dagenham regarding the reliability of the route.

"Many detail that the 103 bus route is completely unreliable and many experience major delays and problems when using the service, such as the unavailability of live service updates and arrivals."

She added that she was "concerned" about the impact this would have on working people in the community, and urged TfL to set out "remedial steps" to improve the route.

However, TfL has insisted there are no "significant issues" with the reliability of the 103 route.

They also said that live bus information and some timetable and planning information will still not be available due to the ongoing cyber incident.

Geoff Hobbs, TfL’s director of public transport service planning, told this paper that TfL "regularly" reviews its services and has also recently made changes to the service - meaning that buses now run every 15 minutes all day on Sundays.

Mr Hobbs said: "Buses are an important lifeline for millions of Londoners and we’re determined to ensure that people have access to reliable, frequent services.

"We monitor data from our bus network closely and this data does not suggest that there are significant issues with the reliability of this route.

"We are committed to providing the best bus network possible for Londoners and will continue to closely monitor this route and others in the capital."

He added: "Feedback is hugely important to us and will enable us to create bus services which benefit everyone using the services in the local area."
