The Mayor of Newham has issued a statement after a man was fatally stabbed in Canning Town.

Mayor Rokhsana Fiaz called the incident surrounding 50-year-old Raish Ahmed's death on October 7 "profoundly concerning".

It comes after officers from the Metropolitan Police were called to a home in Hartington Road shortly after 4.30pm on October 5.

At the scene, emergency responders found a teenage boy suffering from a slash injury, and a 41-year-old man who had also been allegedly assaulted.

“The Council's social workers are supporting his son and family, as it works with the police to reassure the wider community.

“All of us are rightly troubled about how such a horrific event could have happened in our borough leading to the devastating loss of Raish's life.”
