A thug threatened a member of the public with a knife whilst he was sat on a bench in Harold Hill.
The 39-year-old man was sat in Farnham Road when he was approached by 20-year-old Alan Morfett.
Morfett, who was wearing a balaclava and a hood, pulled a large knife from his waistband and lunged it towards the victim’s throat, the Met Police said.
The incident took place on Saturday, June 22, and Morfett had left the scene before police arrived.
The following day local neighbourhood officers identified and arrested him in Harold Hill.
Officers also found the knife and balaclava believed to have been used in the incident.
Morfett, of Darlington Gardens in Harold Hill, pleaded guilty to threatening a person with a blade in a public place.
But last Wednesday (October 2) he was given a suspended sentence, meaning he left court a free man.
A judge at Snaresbrook Crown Court gave him a ten-month sentence suspended for two years.
Acting Ch Insp Charlie Routley, of the Met’s East Area command, said: “I would like to commend my officers’ professionalism and tenacity in identifying Morfett and arresting him so quickly.
“The dedication shown to identify him and remove this weapon from our streets epitomises the community crime fighting spirit that all Havering Safer Neighbourhoods officers share.
“Our commitment to making areas like Harold Hill a safe place to live, work and visit continues with offenders being targeted as part of the Our Harold Hill (Clear Hold Build) project.
“Crimes like this will not be tolerated and we will continue to put these prolific offenders before the courts.”
