Ten people have been evacuated from a huge warehouse fire in west London.

Ten fire engines and around 70 firefighters were called to Norwood Road in Southall at 6.50am today (October 9).

A two-storey warehouse was alight which has caused “significant” amount of smoke in the area.

No injuries have been reported.

Motorists are being urged by fire crews to avoid the Norwood Road area due to heavy congestion.

Residents are also advised to keep their windows and doors closed and stay indoors as fire crews remain in the area.

The fire was under control by 8.51am and its cause is currently unknown.

A London Fire Brigade spokesperson said: "The fire has been producing a significant amount of smoke in the area.

"Although the level of smoke has reduced as firefighters work to extinguish the bulk of the fire, we would continue to ask local residents to keep their windows and doors closed and stay indoors where possible.

"Some road closures are also in place and we advise that drivers avoid the Norwood Road area due to heavy traffic congestion.

"The fire is under control but firefighters are expected to remain on scene for much of the day extinguishing hotspots."
