The original pub was operated from a single cottage in a terrace of four that were once used as Upminster's workhouse.

The current building dates back to the early 20th century, and is rumoured to have been frequented by footballer Jimmy Greaves and actor Victor Maddern.

On its website, The Jobbers Rest is described as having "bags of character".
