More than 50 firefighters were dispatched to a fire at a school in Dagenham. 

The London Fire Brigade was called to Green Lane at around 12.33am this morning (October 3) with reports of a fire.

The brigade's control room received around five 999 emergency calls alerting them to the fire. 

Around 60 firefighters in eight fire engines across Dagenham, Ilford and Hornchurch were dispatched to the scene. 

According to the fire brigade, the fire had started in a portable cabin that was being used as a science room. 

Robert Clack School confirmed to this paper that the fire broke out on its premises. 

A spokesperson for the school said: "It was one demountable classroom for science that was affected. 

"It was contained well before the school day and it didn't affect the school day at all."

Half of the single-storey structure was damaged. 

It took firefighters just under two hours to extinguish the blaze, with the incident over by 2.39am. 

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
