A fried chicken shop has been handed the worst food hygiene rating in September.

Favorite Chicken & Ribs, in Upminster Road South, Rainham, was given a zero out of five for its food hygiene - meaning "urgent" improvement is necessary - after an inspection by the Food Standards Agency (FSA) on September 9. 

Two other businesses in Havering were told by the FSA that "major" improvement was necessary after inspections in September, with an overall rating of one out of five.

However, most restaurants, pubs and bars in Havering were deemed to have "very good" food hygiene standards, including the Harvester in Hornchurch.

This means that "urgent" improvement is necessary in the overall food safety standards, with inspectors finding that "major" improvement was needed in the hygienic handling of food and in the management of safety.

FSA inspectors also found that improvement was needed in the cleanliness and conditions of the facilities at Favorite Chicken & Ribs Rainham, which could include ventilation, layout and pest control.

Favorite Chicken & Ribs Rainham did not comment when contacted by the Recorder.

Dinrbox - 1/5

A small business run from a private address in Havering which offers homecooked food to the community, Dinrbox was told "major" improvement was necessary after an inspection on September 5.

FSA inspectors gave the business a one out of five but its hygienic handling of food and the cleanliness of the facilities were both deemed to be "good".

It was Dinrbox's management of food safety that brought the score down, with inspectors finding that "major" improvement was needed in the systems in place to check that food sold is safe to eat.

The Recorder has contacted Dinrbox for comment.

Natural Bean Speciality Coffee - 1/5

During an inspection on September 5, FSA officers found that improvement was needed in the cleanliness and condition of the facilities, and that "major" improvement was necessary in the food safety management.

The hygienic handling of food at Natural Bean Speciality Coffee - which includes the preparation, re-heating and storage of food - was deemed "generally satisfactory".
