A restaurant in Upminster could be extending its seating onto an extra floor.

A planning application has been submitted to Havering Council seeking approval for the refurbishment of an empty flat above 38 Corbets Tey Road.

Documents accompanying the proposal claim that the home is "currently a vacant flat", but could become a new seating and dining area for the restaurant below.

The flat lies above Roots, a breakfast and brunch cafe that sells 'brunch by day, pizza by night' according to its website.

According to the documents, the addition of a second floor to the restaurant would "work towards developing the night-time economy in Upminster".

Applicant Upminster Group Ltd has also claimed that "should the change of use be granted, the social and economic benefits would have significant positive impact on the local area".

Access to the proposed second floor of the restaurant would be had through the main entrance, with the current dedicated flat entrance made into a fire escape.

If approved, the works are expected to take place in the space of a month starting in November and completing in December.
