Water has been pictured gushing off the surface of a car park in Hornchurch into a river following recent heavy rain.

The Harrow Lodge Park car park off Warren Drive has been flooded since September 23, as London continues to be under the notice of a yellow weather warning.

A footbridge connecting the car park to the Harrow Lodge Park conservation area is also partially under water at either end, restricting access.

Photos taken with a drone have captured the water encroaching onto the nearby land.

Havering Council confirmed this week it is carrying out investigations "to decide if more work is needed" to prevent future flooding after the river burst its banks.

A council spokesperson added: "We are working closely with other agencies including the Environment Agency, Thames Water, who manage the sewers, and Essex and Suffolk Water, who deal with burst water mains, to improve the borough’s sewer network and to better predict future events."

The Met Office has warned people across the country of the "potential for further flooding and transport disruption" before the wet period is expected to end on September 27.
