An Essex shopping centre is set for a phased redevelopment - which includes plans to open a new cinema.
The Baytree Shopping Centre, in Brentwood, will undergo a transformation in three phases, councillors have agreed after a meeting on September 18.
Brentwood Borough Council, which purchased the shopping centre in 2021, gained planning permission for the redevelopment project last year.
The plans take into account the current challenging economic environment, including higher interest rates and build costs, and the wider regeneration of Brentwood high street.
The first phase of the project will focus on essential improvements to street furniture and signage, in partnership with Essex County Council Highways.
These works are expected to be completed by March 2025.

The second phase will see the development of a high-quality public realm scheme at the entrance to the Baytree Centre, creating a "strong gateway" to the rest of the centre and the wider town.
This will involve collaboration with key stakeholders and incorporate the heritage chapel ruins.
The final phase will involve a comprehensive development review of the existing Baytree Centre and the proposed consented scheme.
This will aim to bring forward a "diverse" mix of shops and leisure venues, to act as economic drivers for the wider town centre.
Councillor Gareth Barrett, chairman of Brentwood Borough Council’s assets, projects and strategy committee, said opening a cinema in Brentwood town centre remains a "central part" of the redevelopment plans.
Councillor Barrett said: "Our vision for the redevelopment of the Baytree Centre remains focused on creating a vibrant mix of retail, hospitality, and leisure offerings.
"We're working towards a modern High Street experience where people can shop, dine, socialise, and enjoy a variety of entertainment options."

He added: "The recommendations we agreed at committee this week are all about just getting on with it.
"This means we will finally see the first changes at the Baytree Centre this year."
Structural and placemaking investments are expected next year, while the scheme for the final stage of the Baytree Centre transformation will be prepared from 2026.
