A Romford motorcyclist who was taken to hospital after being "rammed" by a car fears its driver could "kill somebody".

Alan Preston was riding his motorbike on the way to Havering-atte-Bower on September 16 when he was involved in a crash in Havering Road, Collier Row.

Emergency services were called to the scene at around 11am after reports of a collision, and Alan was treated by ambulance crew before being taken to hospital.

The 59-year-old claimed the driver responsible "raced" down the road, and overtook two cars behind him, pulled in front and then hit him.

Alan told the Recorder: "He [the driver of the car] rammed me from behind, knocking me and the bike over 30 feet along the road.

"He then calmly drove off without a care in the world."

The motorcyclist added: "It was right opposite a bus stop, and the two cars behind me stopped and cars coming down the road all stopped.

"At least two people rang ambulances and the police for me.

"I'd like to thank them for everything they did to help me at the roadside."

Alan said he had a full CT scan and X-rays at the hospital, but did not sustain any major injuries.

He was left with "grazed" knees and elbows, a "badly bruised" shoulder and chest, and a "black" left hip and leg.

"Even the paramedics said somebody was looking after me that day," Alan said.

Part of the collision was caught in security camera footage, which has been passed onto police officers to help with their investigation of the incident, according to Alan.

The motorcyclist now wants to find whoever was responsible and has urged anyone with information to get in contact with police.

He said: "I could have been a child on a push bike going back to school for all he knew.

"But he just drove off without a care in the world, so we want [to find] him before he kills somebody."

A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police previously confirmed that their officers attended Havering Road on September 16, but that no arrests were made.

They have since added that the investigation remains live with the Met's Traffic Prosecution Services.
