Police tape and a police officer were pictured in Ingrave Road, Brentwood, after a man died following a "serious assault" on Thursday afternoon (September 12).

A murder investigation was later launched by Essex Police’s Serious Crime Directorate, and officers remained in the area overnight.

A 38-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in custody this morning (September 13), police said.

Det Insp Lisa Hurrell said she appreciates "how concerning" this incident must be for Brentwood residents.

She said: "Our officers arrived at the scene within two minutes and an arrest was made just over an hour after the report came into police.

"We are continuing our enquiries at this pace.

"We are asking anyone who may have witnessed this incident or have any dashcam or CCTV footage from the area to contact us."

Police were called to an address at Ingrave Road in Brentwood just after 3.30pm yesterday following reports of a "serious assault".

Emergency services, including an air ambulance, rushed to the residential street, but a man was pronounced dead at the scene.
