Transport for London (TfL) has said the future of a Havering bus route is "still under discussion".

In its latest update on the future of the 347 bus service - which runs from Romford station all the way through to Ockendon station - TfL has told residents it is continuing to "keep the 347 under review".

The route was previously set to be scrapped last year, along with the 346, and instead replaced with an extended version of the 497 service from Harold Wood to Upminster.

But after a public consultation in January this year, TfL decided to keep the 347 under review, something which is ongoing now.

Geoff Hobbs, TfL’s director of public transport service planning, said: "We have not yet made any decisions on bus route 347 and this is still under discussion.

"Information will be issued to notify passengers and all stakeholders ahead of any changes coming into place."

Mr Hobbs added that TfL is "committed" to providing a good bus network in outer London and "regularly review" the services so that they match customer demand.

He said: "Following a thorough public consultation which was publicised to all residents, involving other local bus routes alongside the 347, we carefully considered all of the feedback and decided to keep the 347 under review at the time.

"This remains the case unless a decision is made about the route’s future."

The 347 also runs through Harold Wood and parts of Upminster along its journey.

Hornchurch and Upminster MP Julia Lopez has today (August 14) sent representations to Mayor of London Sadiq Khan, imploring him to "retain this much needed service for the community".

She is concerned that the loss of the 347 route "will leave many in our community struggling for reliable transport" following the expansion of the Ultra-Low Emission Zone (ULEZ).

Ms Lopez's office claimed that she has been told a decision on the 347's future would be made by a TfL board this week - but this has not been confirmed to the Recorder.
