A person was left with "life-threatening" injuries after being hit by a train at Romford Station this afternoon.

Emergency services were scrambled to the station just after 1pm today (August 12) following reports of a "casualty on the tracks".

A doctor and a paramedic from London's Air Ambulance trauma team, as well as an ambulance crew, treated a person at the scene before taking them to hospital "as a priority".

The patient survived the incident but their injuries are believed to be "life-threatening".

Firefighters were also called to Romford Station to help the other emergency services, with two fire engines and a fire rescue unit from Ilford Fire Station arriving at the scene just after 1.15pm.

The incident caused severe delays across the entire Elizabeth Line, from White Chapel to Shenfield.

Minor disruptions continued to affect the line until 6pm.

Romford Station was closed and buses along South Street were diverted following the incident - although all services have now returned to normal.

The British Transport Police say the incident is "not believed to be suspicious".
