Cutting edge technology has won national recognition for Havering Sixth Form College with accreditation from a top academic institute.
The accreditation has been awarded to the New City College group by the Institute of Knowledge Exchange for its science, technology, engineering and maths curriculum.
Main achievements the institute found were the programmes that inspire “creativity and inventiveness” using advanced technology such as VR headsets and data-logging tools.
“This is recognition of our education that prepares students for the future,” Havering Sixth Form’s principal Janet Smith said. “Our approach to learning is to strive for excellence in all that we do.”
The new accreditation follows a rigorous assessment in which the Havering campus in Wingletye Lane, Hornchurch, was found to be well integrated with tools and methods to give students the skills for their careers.
The college was also praised for its high pass rates and progress to top universities, along with its collaboration with industry and initiatives like carbon literacy certification.
The students can take part in higher education programmes such as biomedical workshops with the University of East London, radiography visits to Queen’s Hospital in Romford, summer schools and virtual work experience with top speakers from industry.
