West Ham fans surprised with 2024/25 away kit by Anton Ferdinand

Ex-player Anton Ferdinand, brother of Rio, gave three West Ham fans from Romford and Bow the 2024/25 'Cockney' away kit this week.

The club said the kit paid tribute to its East End origins.

Among those presented with a shirt was Romford's Andy Quaife, who was given his Cockney shirt at Romford Snooker Club.

"I'm down here on a Wednesday morning most weeks and I didn't expect this when I came to the snooker club," Andy said.

"It's a nice shirt - I normally get them as birthday or Christmas presents, so it's nice to get one straight away and ready for the start of the season.

"It was brilliant to meet Anton too," he added.

Benefiting from the giveaway at Accra Palace in Clapton was James Atkinson, also from Romford.

"I don't normally work in the area, but I was here today and had a quick scroll on social and realised it was five minutes from where I am," James said.

"So I had a quick run down here and discovered I had won, so it has worked out perfectly.

"The first year I had a season ticket was when Anton was playing, so it was great to talk about the Fulham goal and things like that with him," he added.

At the Bow Bells pub, known as a pre or post match spot near the London Stadium, Christine Ketteringham was the final winner.

Christine, from Bow, said: "It was a lovely surprise to see Anton and be given the new shirt.

"I've always loved football, my family are football fanatics.

"I think it's a brilliant kit," she added. "The third kit a few years ago was black and I liked that one.

"I bought it for my nephew and he loved it as well – but I'm keeping this one."

Anton, also a Hammers ambassador, said: "It was a fantastic morning, getting out to the local venues and giving out the shirts.

"To give the kit to three totally different types of people tells you what the community of east London is all about. I’m thankful to be a part of it," he added.

The venues were chosen given their significance to the football club.

These were Romford Snooker Club, very close to the Rush Green Training Ground, the Bow Bells pub, and the Accra Palace Ghanaian restaurant in Clapton.

Cynthia Odoi, business owner of Accra Palace, also said it was "fantastic" to have Hammers player Mohammed Kudus visit, after he visited the premises as part of the launch film for the kit.

“It’s been really nice to be involved in the campaign, and being a Ghanaian restaurant, having Mohammed Kudus coming down was fantastic."

"It’s really made the community happy," she added.
