A secondary school has been given an 'outstanding' Ofsted rating, praised for excellent pupil behaviour and systems in place for pupils with special educational needs or disabilities (SEND).

The Warren School in Whalebone Lane North, Chadwell Heath received the education regulator's top grade last month after an inspection on May 15.

It attained an 'outstanding' grade in all categories, including for the quality of education, personal development and behaviour and attitudes.

The school, led by headteacher Jennifer Ashe, is a mixed academy which teaches students aged 11 to 18, and currently has 1,318 pupils with a capacity of 1,380.

"Pupils are incredibly keen to learn and enjoy being with their friends," the report read.

The Chadwell Heath school was previously rated 'good' after an inspection in 2023.

Expectations at the school were also praised by Ofsted.

"Pupils' attitudes to their learning are excellent," the report read. "They understand the school's high expectations regarding attendance and punctuality and are motivated to achieve well."

The school was also praised for having "robust" systems in place to identify the needs of children with SEND.

There are SEND ambassadors in each department who work to ensure their subject is adapted so that all pupils can access it fully, inspectors found.

"[SEND] pupils quickly receive the support that they need," the report said.

Pupil behaviour was another area where The Warren School excelled, according to Ofsted.

"Pupils' behaviour is excellent," the report stated. "Learning is rarely interrupted due to low-level disruptions in class.

"On the rare occasions this happens, it is dealt with swiftly by staff.

"Outside of lessons, pupils move around the building purposefully to get to their next lesson or to enjoy their breaktimes," it added.

The inspection body also praised teachers for having strong subject knowledge and teaching the curriculum closely. Safeguarding arrangements at The Warren School were deemed effective.

Ofsted normally gives one working day's notice before an inspection but can also inspect schools without notice, in some cases.

The Warren School did not respond when contacted for comment.
