A bike festival is coming to Romford in July, celebrating all things cycling.

Bike Fest will be held in Romford Market Place, outside Tollgate House, on Saturday, July 6 between 10am and 4pm.

The event is being organised by Romford Business Improvement District (BID), in partnership with various local and national cycling suppliers and organisations.

Visitors can expect a range of cycling-themed activities, information, and entertainment, including exciting BMX display stunt shows.

Bike Fest also promises free minor bike services and repairs from Doctor Bike.

Trainers from Cycle Confident will be on hand to provide helpful tips to those looking to improve their cycling skills.

Julie Frost, Romford BID director, said: "We are really excited to be hosting our first ever Bike Fest event this Summer.

"Havering and Romford have an extensive range of cycle paths and scenic routes for commuting, and we hope this event will inspire and encourage more people of all ages to get in the saddle and enjoy cycling."

Cycling lovers will have the opportunity to purchase bikes and accessories as numerous offers and discounts will be up for grabs.

One of the organisations at the event will be social enterprise Peddle My Wheels, who will showcase their flexible, try-before-you-buy bike scheme, designed to encourage more people to give cycling a try without the up-front commitment.

For those interested in cycling schemes, Havering Council will be at Market Place on the day with information about its cycling programmes and healthy weight strategy.

Between 12pm and 2pm, Romford BID will be offering free bike marking registrations, in partnership with Select a Mark and UK police forces, to deter theft and help in the recovery of stolen bikes.

Bike Fest is not only aimed at cycling enthusiasts but also plans to put on activities for all ages.

This includes four BMX display stunt shows, a minibike and hula hoop display, and an opportunity to see a traditional penny farthing up close.

There will be free face painting available from 11am to 3pm, as well as wide selection of food and drinks from market traders.

Julie added: "We have lined up a host of great entertainment for all the family to enjoy and we can’t wait to see the performers in action on the day."

The Bike Fest is free and requires no pre-booking.
