A man who was allegedly spotted driving his car while smoking cannabis has been charged.

Joseph Willis, 34, of Lake Avenue in Rainham, will appear at Southend Magistrates Court on July 4.

Willis had been arrested on June 9 and has now been charged with possession of class A and B drugs, the Metropolitan Police said yesterday (June 12).

The 34-year-old had also been wanted for failing to appear in court by Essex Police, having previously been charged with possession of a controlled class A drug.

South Hornchurch and Beam Park police had posted to X, formerly Twitter, on June 9 announcing an arrest had been made.

The police team alleged the driver had been smoking cannabis at the wheel before his arrest.
