A bowls bonanza is being staged in Brentwood this weekend to give people a chance to try one of the fastest growing sports in the UK.
It is being staged for all ages by Brentwood Bowling Club from 10am to 2pm both days (May 18/19) with a public invite at King George’s Playing Fields in Ingrave Road, with equipment and free expert tuition on offer.
“Our members will be on hand to offer coaching and advice,” club chairman Bob Theobald promises.
“Lawn bowls is ideal to be a social player or to take up competitions and league matches, for anyone wanting to give it a go.”
The club, which had a 20 per cent rise in membership over the winter, puts on free ‘taster’ sessions every Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 10am.
It also staged a Saturday ‘coaching roadshow’ with Essex Bowls Coaches Association on May 4 for complete beginners and seasoned players of county standard, with coaching in tactics, warm-up exercises and group and solo practice.
The club, formed in 1908, is affiliated to Essex County Bowling Association and Bowls England.
