A murder investigation has been launched after a person was killed in what the police describe as a “despicable” and “unprovoked” attack this morning.
Officers from British Transport Police were called to Harold Wood station just after 4.30am when a member of station staff reported that a person was badly hurt and lying on the floor of the station.
They attended alongside Met Police and London Ambulance Service and found the person with “extensive injuries”.
Despite their best efforts, the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

A man has been arrested in connection with the incident and remains in police custody.
The station has been taped off and shut following the murder, with a detour in operation for buses.
Detective Chief Inspector Sam Blackburn said this was an “unprovoked and despicable attack” and a murder probe has been launched.
He said: “The investigation remains in the early stages, and although though we are satisfied that this was an isolated incident the station will remain closed while we continue our enquiries."
Officers have urged anyone who witnessed the incident or has other information that can help with the investigation to text 61016 or call 0800 40 50 40, quoting reference 53 of 27/02/24.
