A man has died after a police chase on the M25 near Upminster.
Officers tried to pull over a car on the M25 anti-clockwise carriageway just before 1pm yesterday afternoon (February 23).
The car failed to stop as instructed and officers initiated a pursuit along the motorway.
Two minutes into the chase, the car collided with the roadside barrier to the A127 slip roundabout at junction 29.
A police spokesperson said that officers provided first aid to the driver before paramedics arrived at the scene, but that the man was pronounced dead before he could be taken to hospital.
Nobody else was in the vehicle at the time of the crash.
A mandatory referral has now been made by the force to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) which has started an investigation.
The crash caused severe delays yesterday afternoon, with traffic backed up on both sides of the Dartford Crossing.
Witnesses yet to speak to police are asked to call 101, quoting reference 3090/23Feb.
