The Brigade said half of the ground floor of the bungalow and part of the roof of the adjoining home were also damaged by fire.
Two people, they added, living in the house next door had left before the firefighters arrived.
No injuries were reported in the incident. A probe has been launched by the Brigade to determine the cause of the fire.
Firefighters from Wennington, Hornchurch and Dagenham fire stations attended the scene.
