A community club in Rainham has been forced to shut for days after a break-in.
Bretons Manor Community Association and Social Club, based at the historic Bretons Manor in Rainham Road, posted on Monday (February 12) that the club is “closed until further notice”.
A spokesperson for the club told the Recorder that at around 4pm that day Bretons Manor was broken into, and a quantity of cash which was due to be banked was stolen.
He said: “Security has now been increased and improved. We have changed our cash handling procedures to reduce the likelihood of a reoccurrence.

“We will also be consulting our members with a view to going card only, reducing still further the amount of cash held on the premises.”
The club is not expected to open until tomorrow (February 16), he added.
Met Police confirmed that detectives are investigating a commercial burglary at the club.
Between 1pm and 4pm on Monday, a force spokesperson said two suspects caused damage to the club’s building to enter it.
They said no arrests have been made but urged anyone with information or footage related the incident to call the police on 101 citing crime ref 5402864/24.
