Pictures reveal a crime scene still in place outside a shopping centre after the discovery of a man's body in the car park sparked a murder probe.

At around 1.15am yesterday (January 10), police found the body of a man in a car at the Stratford Centre following a tip-off from a “concerned member of the public”.

A man was subsequently arrested on suspicion of murder at a home in Hampshire.

Police are still trying to confirm the dead man’s identity and inform his next of kin.

A Met spokesperson said that a post-mortem examination would be held “in due course”.

Pictures taken yesterday evening showed that the crime scene was still in place outside the Stratford Centre, although stores appeared to be open.

A police vehicle was parked close to a cordon which was blocking off part of a road.

A crime scene also remains in place at the address in Hampshire.

Chief Superintendent Simon Crick, responsible for policing in Newham, said: “I know many local people use the Stratford Centre every day and this awful incident will of course cause considerable concern to shoppers and retailers.

“I would like to reassure people that a man is in custody and, while my colleagues in Specialist Crime investigate, we do not believe there to be any danger to other people.

“If you have information that you think could help us, I urge you to contact police immediately.”
