Several trees were uprooted in Havering after Storm Henk hit London with 50mph winds.

Residents from across the borough shared pictures of the aftermath of yesterday's bad weather.

Pictures by Peter Barrett showed a fallen fence on top of parked cars near a Sainsbury’s shop in Hornchurch.

Shelly Cross from Emerson Park said the wind “blew their shed off”.

Adam Knight added that he was travelling to work this morning (January 3) when he saw what appeared to be the sign for Queens Moat House in Romford fallen on the floor.

Essex Police reported that a fallen tree at a roundabout leading to Lakeside Shopping Centre had a knock-on effect on the A13 and M25, with motorists claiming they were stuck on the motorway for nearly two hours.

A flood alert was issued for the Mardyke to the River Thames at Purfleet, with the area covered by it extending to parts of Upminster.

The incidents, they said, included objects found in precarious positions since around 3pm including trees, scaffolding, roof tiles, solar panels and roofing.
