A man shot and killed by armed police last month has been named and his cause of death confirmed.
The Independent Office for Police Conduct has confirmed the identity of the man, naming him as Giedrius Vasiljevas, of Weston Green, Dagenham.
The man, who was in his 40s, was killed in a police shooting in the residential cul-de-sac.
Mr Vasiljevas was a Lithuanian national.
A post-mortem has attributed his provisional cause of death as a gunshot wound to his abdomen.
IOPC regional director Charmaine Arbouin said: “This was a tragic incident and we recognise the devastating impact this has had on Mr Vasiljevas’ family and friends, and all of those affected.
“Fatal police shootings are rare but when they happen, it’s important that there is an independent investigation to establish all of the circumstances surrounding the incident.
“We recently met with Mr Vasiljevas’ family to extend our condolences and explain our role. We appreciate that his family and friends and the wider community will want answers quickly and our investigators are working hard to establish the facts.
"We will, of course, continue to keep Mr Vasiljevas’ family fully informed on progress.”
An inquest has been scheduled for The East London Coroner's Court on December 13.
Mr Vsiljevas was shot and killed by police in the cul-de-sac on November 23 after he made a call to police, reportedly saying he wanted to take his life.
In the same call, he is said to have made reference to loaded firearms in the property, prompting armed police to be sent to the scene.
After negotiation attempts failed, armed officers fired shots and Mr Vasiljevas was pronounced dead at the scene.
All police officers involved are currently being treated as witnesses.
