The owner of a new restaurant in Upminster has announced it will open next week.

MIAHS, an Indian takeaway, will be launched on Monday (November 20) in Corbets Tey Road after the site underwent a renovation.

Somed Miah, the owner, told the Recorder that the takeaway will offer authentic Indian curries, grills, biryanis and have “extensive” vegan options.

He said he had been in the business for more than 20 years and had opened two other takeaways, in Walthamstow and Leytonstone, before venturing into Upminster.

In Walthamstow, he claimed that their chain has built many loyal vegan customers who “keep coming back” for more.

He added: “We often find that there are not many vegan options on the menu at restaurants. But we had a big vegan customer base earlier due to our range of options catering to them.

“We are hoping that there will be many vegan people in Havering and surrounding areas who would want to try something new."

Having run the family business for years, Somed said he is aware of the challenges a new site can bring in.

He added: “With inflation and prices of food going up, our profits had also thinned down.

“After Covid we had to close our Leytonstone outlet, and since then we were looking for a place that would suit our needs."

The site in Upminster was chosen for its value and location, he said.

He added: “Upminster is a posh and niche area. There are many restaurants and takeaways around. But we have been doing this for many years. Our food has been popular before. We provide quality service.

“So, we welcome people from Upminster and Havering to try us and enjoy our food.”

Despite the current economic climate, there have been other new venues opening their doors in the borough in recent weeks.

These include Mediterranean restaurant The Aviary while leisure venue BUNKERS! launched in Romford last week.
