A Hackney man is among people charged after violent clashes erupted in central London over a pro-Palestine march.

Met Police officers made 145 arrests during the demonstration on Sunday (November 11) and the counter protest by right wing groups.

These relate to various offences like assault, possession of weapons, criminal damage, public order, inciting racial hatred and possession of drugs.

Out of these 91 arrests were made to prevent a breach of the peace, including a significant number of counter protestors arrested in Tachbrook Street, Pimlico as they tried to confront the main pro-Palestinian demonstrators.

Met Police and British Transport Police have additionally published eight more appeals in relation with hate crimes during the day.

A probe led by Met’s Counter Terrorism Command and the Public Order Crime Team has so far led to seven people being charged from across the country.

John Harvey, 75, of Pamela Street in Hackney is named as one of the suspects who has been charged with criminal damage. He is remanded to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Monday (November 13).

The other suspects are a mix of individuals from within and outside London as listed below:

Ethan Stapely, 23, of Bradwell in Norfolk was charged with resisting arrest. He was remanded to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Monday (November 13).

Sam Fairclough, 33, of Buckley in Flintshire was charged with possession of an offensive weapon. He has been bailed to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Friday (December 1).

Taylor Warne, 21, of Hastingleigh in Kent was charged with possession of class A drugs. He has been bailed to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Thursday (November 30).

James Buckley, 42, of Manchester was charged with possession of an offensive weapon. He has been bailed to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Thursday (November 30).

William Duncan, 48, of Armadale in West Lothian was charged with being drunk and disorderly. He has been bailed to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Thursday (November 30).

Karl Jordan, 47, of Burlington Lane in Hounslow was charged with assault on an emergency worker. He has been bailed to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Thursday (November 30).

Laurence Taylor, Met’s Deputy Assistant Commissioner, who led Saturday’s policing operation said their officers continue to build cases against those in custody and launch investigations when any images and videos come to their attention.

He urged anyone with information about the identity of other suspects, or footage and images of further potential offences to get in touch with the police.

Regarding the arrests made on the day, he said: “This is a power officers have available to them where there is an imminent threat of harm. Once the imminent threat has passed, it is normal for those arrested to be released. Only where it continues will a person be put before the courts.

“In line with this approach, with the protest now concluded, those arrested to prevent a breach of the peace only have been released.

“Those who were arrested for other matters in addition to a breach of the peace are being dealt with for those offences.”
