Distressing Islamophobic graffiti relating to the Israel-Hamas conflict was found at a girls’ school in Woodford Green.
Woodford County High School for Girls, in High Road, quickly removed the hateful message after it was discovered.
A Redbridge Council spokesperson said: “We have spoken to the school where the graffiti was discovered and share their shock and distress at its Islamophobic and racist content.
“As soon as the graffiti was found on Saturday the school removed it, began an investigation, and wrote to parents, carers, and school staff to reassure them that these actions had been taken.
“We understand that an investigation into the origin of the graffiti is ongoing, and the police have visited the school.”
Similar offensive messaging regarding the Israel-Hamas conflict has been cropping up in other schools. In north London, the Channing School for Girls in Highgate dealt with antisemitic graffiti.
The Metropolitan Police has said senior officers are concerned at “rising levels” of antisemitism and Islamophobia, as well as the number of extremist and hateful material online.
Officers continue to provide reassurance patrols and as of last Friday (November 3) they have made more than 6,500 visits to vulnerable premises, including 928 schools and 4,769 faith premises.
