Havering Council is looking for a broadband supplier to bring better connectivity to its flats in the borough.
It announced yesterday (October 2) that it is seeking expressions of interest from suppliers to bring fast, gigabit-capable broadband to more than 4,900 council flats.
This involves replacing old copper broadband lines for fibre cables, said to be faster and more reliable.
Ray Morgon, Havering Council leader, said: “We are committed to making Havering a borough with first class connectivity [...] and welcome expressions of interest from fibre optic providers."

Once installed, people in council-owned flats can order "ultra-fast" broadband connection said to give download speeds of at least 300 megabits-per-second, the council added.
Interested parties will be asked to submit detailed proposals before wayleave negotiations begin.
A wayleave agreement would grant a provider with special access to council buildings to install and manage new infrastructure, namely the fibre cables.
