Romford is known for historic pubs that have attracted locals for generations.
The Great British Pub Awards 2023 took place on Tuesday (September 19) night where the Cholmondeley Arms of Cheshire was crowned winner.
Though no Romford pubs were named, we saw this as a chance to ask our Facebook readers to tell us the best pub in town.

The shortlist
The Wheatsheaf
A traditional pub just five minutes away from Romford train station, The Wheatsheaf has two bars and a garden.
The Wheatsheaf has been run by the same family since 1969, according to its website, which also claimed it is the only pub in Romford with two separate bars.
Aspen Tree
The Aspen Tree is located just off the A12 within easy driving distance of Brookside Theatre and The City Pavilion.
According to commenter Mel Clare, the pub has been recently refurbished and now includes four TV screens with sport and a new dining area.
The Golden Lion
Nice, cosy and comfortable was how one reader described The Golden Lion.
The pub in High Street was listed back as far as 1440, according to pubhistory.com.
The building dates from the 16th and 17th centuries, the website added.
The Bull, Market Place
Situated in Market Place, The Bull has a pool table and has been praised for great staff and good food.
Gidea Park Micropub
Andrew Achilleos, Labour councillor for Dagenham and Rainham, described this Main Road venu as a great boozer with a warm atmosphere.
It has a selection of real cask ales and craft keg beers, he added.

Described as a "hidden gem", The Mawney Arms received the most nominations.
It has an impressive history after being built in the summer of 1894.
