Burglars posing as police officers stole cash in a bogus morning raid.
Four suspects claiming to be executing a search warrant tricked their way into an Upminster home at around 6.30am on Sunday (September 3).
They walked away with money - and the theft was reported to police an hour later.
The Metropolitan Police say the four suspects were not wearing a specific force uniform or carrying police identification.
The force added that nobody was hurt in the burglary, and only a small amount of cash was stolen.
Detective Chief Inspector Robin Peel advised people in Upminster to “take every precaution”.
He said residents should ask for a warrant card that all officers should be able to present if they are trying to come into their homes.
He added: "If you are still not convinced of their validity, please dial 999."
