A man was left with a broken nose and head injuries following an unprovoked assault.
Police came across an unresponsive man in Western Road, Romford, at around 3.15am on Saturday (September 2) while dealing with an unrelated matter.
The 21-year-old man was taken to hospital, where he remains.
He has suffered a broken nose and head injuries and his next of kin are aware, Scotland Yard said.
It was established that the victim had been walking in the street after a night out with friends when he had a brief interaction with another man, who then assaulted him before making off.
The suspect is described as aged about 20 to 25 years old, with short curly hair on top with shaved sides. He was wearing dark trousers and a purple hoodie.
There have been no arrests at this time.
The AA reported that the incident had closed Western Road for much of the day in both directions between South Street and A1251 Mercury Gardens.
The London Ambulance Service said they sent an ambulance crew, an incident response officer and a medic in a fast response car and took the man to hospital "as a priority".
