A man has been jailed after a bank card dispute led to a "horrific" fatal attack.

Salieu Seray-Wurie, 26, of no fixed address, was found guilty of murder at the Old Bailey yesterday (August 30) and has subsequently been jailed for 19 years.

Darren Ammon, 46, was the victim and his mother Christine said the "horrific" details of the trial will be embedded in her mind forever.

"I have had to be strong for my family but truly I am broken," Christine said.

“We will never get to see him again, hear him again, get to tell him off, never be able to share our love with him again.

"I have had my son taken from me. I will always have that pain in my life.”

Seray-Wurie had previously pleaded guilty to theft and manslaughter.

Police were called by a member of the public on October 19, 2022 after welfare concerns for a man in Kirton Gardens, Shoreditch.

Officers found Darren bound and covered with a duvet.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

A postmortem examination revealed Darren died from compression to the neck.

It also discovered that Darren had been killed “several days prior to being found”, police said.

A murder probe was launched by the Met’s Specialist Crime Command and a forensic examination of the crime scene found Seray-Wurie’s fingerprints on the front door.

Officers established that Seray-Wurie had been staying with Darren at the time of Darren’s death and was in need of money to fund his drug habit.

A spokesperson for Met Police said that Seray-Wurie fatally attacked Darren after believing that he had taken his bank card.

After the attack, Seray-Wurie sold Darren’s television and pawned it before travelling to Slough.

He was arrested on October 22 last year on suspicion of murder.

Det Ch Insp Neil John called it a “tragic case” where a man “needlessly lost his life for the sake of a few pounds”.

“I would like to praise his family, who have had to sit in court and listen to the details about Darren’s death.

"They have shown dignity and our thoughts today remain with them.”
