A developer has proposed building six “mews style” houses in Hornchurch behind a commercial street with shops and other businesses located nearby.
A planning application was sent to Havering Council on June 26 seeking approval for the development on a site that is located behind 67 to 89 Station Lane in Hornchurch.
The houses will be surrounded by the Queenside Mews, some single storey shops with flats above, gardens of 1 to 8 Florence Close and Drapers Court nearby.
A spokesperson for Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency has also confirmed that these will be at the rear of a driving test centre at 75, Station Lane in Hornchurch.

It has been stated in a planning document that the six mews style houses will have shared openings at ground floor that can be fitted with “timber style garage doors” taking cues from other such developments in Central London.
The site level is said to be reduced to match the access road and reduce its impact on existing surrounding developments.
The proposal added: “The flat roof solution further reduces impact and provides for a more modern external appearance for the terrace of houses”.
The main driver for the site layout, it said, is ensuring that there is sufficient parking for the news houses.
It claimed that the developer has been careful to ensure that there is “sufficient distance between the back of the houses and existing flats in Queenside Mews”.
It recommended using “garage style recesses” for parking, refuse and cycles.
The application follows a previous plan submitted by the developer to build flats arranged in two blocks over two floors.
It was rejected by Havering council and the planning officer had suggested that a mews style development will be “more suitable for the site”.
A decision on the new proposal is expected to be taken by the council by August 21 this year.
