Plans for a new Asda Express store in Romford have moved a step closer after an application for a new sign was submitted to Havering Council.
The supermarket giant is looking to open at the site of a former Co-op in South Street.
The council validated plans for the new sign last Wednesday (June 21).
The Recorder reported earlier this year that a premises licence was granted by the council to enable the proposed Asda Express to sell alcohol.
Consultations will now be carried out and a decision date has been set as August 16.
Asda announced last year how it intends on opening 300 of the express stores across London, Wiltshire, Essex and Surrey by the end of 2026.
People expressed their views on a potential new Asda on social media, commenting on a Facebook update from the Romford Civic Society.

“[It] will be good to get this corner back in to use, should help to reduce social issues,” said Sam Dobney.
The planning reference is A0027.23 and can be found on the council's website havering.gov.uk.
